Invest in People, They Will Invest in You
I have had numerous conversations lately with people local to our area on a variety of topics: market conditions (growth, contraction, recession, etc.), hiring, layoffs, DEIB initiatives, and more.
I'm noticing a theme...All these big-ticket topics affect PEOPLE. So why do organizations immediately think about cutting back on budget items that invest in their people? Think about it---we cut budgets for talent strategy, professional development, benefits, etc.
Do we consider ways to rethink how we run our services, sell products or other expenses to cut? I often wonder if we cut back the Human Resource related budget items because it seems easier and takes less creative problem-solving.
Stop and think about ALL your options before you cut back on your people. If the last few years have taught us anything, investing in the Human Resource functions that support your people is of utmost importance. After all, it's the PEOPLE that make your organization run---individual contributors up to the CEO.
